The goals of this training course are to:

  • Familiarize you with the concepts of the WHMIS system
  • Allow you to recognize hazardous materials in the workplace
  • Help you to protect yourself from these hazardous materials
  • and to certify you in the following areas; Purpose and Structure of the legislation and regulations - Responsibilities - Classification - Supplier Labels - Workplace Labels - Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) - Training Requirements - Additional Sources of Information

This course will be broken into a series of modules. At the end of each one,
you will be asked to answer some questions to indicate your level of understanding.

The modules are:

1. Legislation and regulations

  • Learn the signification of WHMIS.
  • Know about the training requirements.
  • Learn about the various Legislation and Regulations that make up the WHMIS system

2. Classification of Hazardous Materials

  • Learn about the WHMIS Hazard symbols and the dangers associated with them

3. Hazard Labels, including

  • Supplier labels, applied by the manufacturer or distributor; and
  • Workplace labels, that you will apply to unlabelled hazardous materials in your workplace

4. Material Safety Data Sheets, or MSDS’s

  • Learn about the WHMIS Material Safety Data sheet requirements
